Junior (Grades 7/8) REM Thirteen rural schools become one for two days!
Yukon Education hosted the Junior REM in Faro, the Traditional Territory of the Ross River Dena Council, in May 2016 and May 2017, and in Watson Lake, the Traditional History of the Liard First Nation, in May 2018. Approximately one hundred Grades 7 and 8 students and seventy educators from Beaver Creek, Carcross, Carmacks, Dawson, Faro, Destruction Bay, Haines Junction, Mayo, Old Crow, Pelly Crossing, Ross River, Teslin, and Watson Lake gather for two days of engaging hands-on activities, facilitated by rural teachers, Yukon First Nations Elders, and local experts. The Junior REM is a unique, experiential approach that offers students a two-day holistic program of integrated traditional and modern 21st century teaching and learning in order to strengthen their cultural, emotional, mental, and physical well-being. The REM also enables students to connect with their peers in other Yukon communities. The next Junior REM will be hosted in Faro, from May 14-16, 2019.
